Macondo
Literary
Festival
Among the nine best literary festivals in the world, according to Condè Nast Traveler
We are Nairobi’s literary festival connecting Africa’s histories and futures through literature.
Since 2019, we have been exploring the role of literature in envisioning past, present and future societies with our emphasis on questions that stimulate and motivate African future crafting and world-making. We convene writers, thinkers, and artists whose works interrogate histories, futures, and the political imagination. We highlight the rich diversity of literature of and from Global Africa and beyond and invite its creators to connect with our community, the Macondo citizens: Readers, thinkers, curious humans from all walks of life who ask: What does it mean for us to be human in this time? What does the humanity of the other mean for me?
